I heard a crazy rumor that D1 ball is going to be on Saturday afternoons and D2 is going to be on Thursday nights. I hope this is false. Thursday nights are clearly preferred and since D1 has been around forever and D2 will only be in it's sophomore season, I think D1 should take precedence. Middle of the day on weekends is totally inconvenient for old folks like myself.

Saturday afternoons will be tough, especially since the season will be going on at the same time as softball. Thursday nights was something special. Sure wish D1 is on Thursdays.

this is crazy, i think most players would like to have it on thursday nights because its very convienent. IF it does go on saturday then most players will miss out and hence a lockout will begin

Jazak Allah Khiar AFAY & others for sharing your concerns. Firstly, we want to make it clear that we don’t intend to show any sort of preference to one division over the other as both divisions are paying the same fees & dedicating the same amount of time towards the league. Also, we don’t see D1 as being around longer than D2 as the league has changed a lot over the course of the 10 season. Players who have been around since 06 can argue that the first 2 seasons, the level of competition was closer to that of D2. With that said, I do think the scheduling was well thought out for the spring season and here are the reasons we decided to hold D2 on Thursday nights and D1 on Saturday mornings: 1 - As the demand for D1 is higher, Saturdays will allow for 12+ teams. If 14-16 teams register for D1, our Saturday morning schedule will allow for it (10 AM – 2 PM). 2 - The sisters had the Yoga sessions on Thursday nights last year and they preferred to keep Thursday nights for this year. Through looking at the list of the Yoga participants, we realized that more husbands played in D2 than D1. 3 - Having the Yoga program coincide with D2 league will also help D2 league to grow. Being we struggled to fill 6 teams for D2, and easily filled 10 teams for D1 for the fall season, we want to see the D2 league sustain itself and hopefully the Yoga program can help. After considering the reasons above, we felt strongly that D2 Thursday nights and D1 Saturday mornings was only logical and in best interest for the overall good of Muslim Basketball. I hope that this helps clarify and looking forward to another great season insha Allah. Saad Edited by user Saturday, January 14, 2012 1:32:25 PM(UTC)

LOL, thanks Ali. Saad, thanks for the explanation.....however your statements are a bit contradictory. You say neither division gets preference but you guys are clrearly catering to D2: Quote:2 - The sisters had the Yoga sessions on Thursday nights last year and they preferred to keep Thursday nights for this year. Thursday can ONLY hold 12 teams = 2 courts 3 hours 6 games 12 teams
D1 is expected to have more than 12 teams
Saturday can hold 20 teams = 2 courts 5 hours 10 games 20 teams

I don't think MB can fill more than 12 spots of competitive D1 teams. That was the reason why you created a D2.

D2 was not created because we couldn't fill 12 teams. Not sure who told you that. D2 was created before any registration had even started, so how would we know how many teams would join?
Fall (formerly winter) = we've always maxed out on teams prior to Fallball '11.
Spring (formerly summer) = we always had 2 or more captains/teams on a waiting list = hence, we expect more than 12 teams to join Springball '12.

Let me rephrase. MB has never filled 12 competitive teams in its history. So why even worry about getting up to 20 teams for D1. Half of the league would belong in D2 if you were to get that many teams.
I honestly would not like to spend saturday and sunday away from my family. I was hoping for thursday nights to spread it out a little bit. I dont know where the rest of the league stands on this, but from what I remember, most people would prefer thursday nights over weekends around noon.
Either way it seems as though you guys are set on this so there is not point in continuing this conversation.

I COMPLETELY AGREEEEEEEEE 1,0000 % Thursday night is definitely better, in terms of convenience and feel. People would stay after their game to watch other games on Thursday night. You won't get that with games on Saturday morning. I think you will be seeing a lot of players who would normally be playing in D1 playing in the D2 league, not because they belong in D2, but because it is Thursday night. I think Summerball D2 will look more like what Muslim Basketball did 2 years ago, (when there was an approval process) because it will be on Thursday nights. It will still be competitive and as long as you don't stack up like crazy, the team will be approved. To me D1 > D2 but D2 (Thursday nights ) > D1 (Saturday mornings ) I plan to play Thursday nights whether it be D1 or D2 iA. Edited by user Wednesday, January 18, 2012 11:07:23 AM(UTC)
