I know he's been putting up big numbers lately, but no one averaging 5 TOs a game should be receiving that many votes.

Isn't the MVP supposed to be selected from a team with a winning record?

We were 4-3 with him in the lineup. Two forfeits and an unfinished game put us under .500, none of this matters anyways. No one else is even close in my opinion. 25 a game with 59% shooting is crazy nuts...not even close.

Forwarded Message:

Dear all,

Thank you for your votes for MVP thus far, but please take my name out
of contention for the award this year. I am not the MVP . But, it's
not because I average five turnovers per game. That statistic is more
indicative of how often I control the ball. And, when you combine
that stat with my assists (which I league the league in despite
playing center), it's indicative of my focus on distributing the ball
successfully to scorers like A. Hassan, Yamin, and
Olan. If you decide to discredit my claim to the award because of my
turnovers, then fairness dictates that you give me extra credit for
the fact that my team is #1 in scoring and assists (and if you don't,
then consider yourself a bona fide hater). For those who have seen me
play in years past, I don't think there's a doubt as to how much I
have adjusted to playing with dangerous offensive options like those
three as opposed to being the number one scoring and distributing
option.

The reason why I'm not the MVP is because my team is way too good and
has four legitimate players that can be the best player on a good
number of teams in this league and that have contributed immeasurably
to our success thus far this season. Yes, I lead my team in rebounds,
assists, steals, and blocks, and I'm #1 overall in the league in
assists and #2 in rebounds, and my team's record is great. But,
notwithstanding, I am most certainly not the piece of the puzzle that
is determinative of our success. Take away Olan, Yamin, or A. Hassan,
and I guarantee you that we wouldn't be tearing through the league
like we have been. To give me the MVP considering these facts would
be, frankly, a gross error and insulting to those three players.

The MVP of the league this year is the big white guy on Istanbul whom
I have yet to meet but hereby affectionately refer to as Bill Walton.
His team is currently seeded #4, and he averages over 18 and 14 while
shooting 53% from the field, and he has nine double doubles. There is
only one player with comparable statistics AND is on a team that has a
good record, and that is the tall thin guy from Bukhara. Where I hang
my hat, however, is the dependency that Istanbul is on Bill Walton.
Take him away, and Istanbul is a sub .500 team. Take away the tall
thin guy from Bukhara, and they would still be pretty good though not
to the degree they are now.

Farhad and Ardell should also be in the conversation based on
statistics. But, their respective teams do not have the wins to back
up their claims to the crown.

I was the MVP in the Summer of 2007. I should have been the MVP in
the Summer of 2009 (my understanding is that no MVP was given that
year at the discretion of the administrators, but I lead my team as a point
guard to an 8-2 record, and that same team, with two good additions,
now has a record of 3-6 this season without me). I know what it takes
to be MVP. I know an MVP if I see one. And, without a doubt, the MVP
this year is Bill Walton. If he doesn't get it, then it's telling of
the true value of the award. If, somehow, I win it, I'll refuse to
accept it.

(Of course, there is still one game left to play, so only Allah SWT
knows how things will shake out. I might drop a quadruple double in
the last game of the season without Yamin, Olan, or A. Hassan being
present and lead my team to a win. If that happens, put me back in the
conversation! And, Bill Walton and company might lose, and the tall
skinny guy from Bukhara might drop 50 in a win.)

Thanks for reading. I look forward to seeing all of you
(especially you Edna, Bum.), tomorrow night, iA.

This vote doesnt decide who the MVP is, there is a different mechanism in place for that.

My vote would go to Ahmed Elfayoumi for many reasons. Not only is he an unstoppable offensive threat, but he's led his team to wins while Mecca had thin rosters (Medina & Islamabad). He's shooting a great percentage, and he's the vocal leader on an 7-2 team. Mecca's only 1 real loss came against the then-hot Fez squad, during which he almost brought them back for the win. Although there are many other deserving candidates, such as Raji, Khalied and Greg, my vote would go to this wily vet.
Fez - which country is it in?

Nobody should be in the MVP conversation but Khalied and Ardell and maybe Farhud. The rest I honestly don't know why there on that list

I started this thread to spark a conversation and discussion about the MVP. Is there a need to start a thread that says Week 5 results if they are gonna be up by Friday on the Scores/Schedule page??

The only reason I stated that the vote doesnt decide anything, it seems like some people think this is the actual process for the MVP based on some posts. It obviously is not, as its pbvious people know how to clear cookies.

All I was stating that, in my opinion, you cannot have someone with a 1:1 turnover to assist ratio as an mvp. Im not a bona fide hater, thats just a stupid claim. Im entitled to my opinion, and in my opinion an MVP doesnt lead the league in turnovers.

fair enough, but I just wonder about how productive such a thread is since there's a specific committee in place that decides who the mvp is anyways. Regarding week 5 results, people like knowing the results of the games asap, so there is some value, although it may be minute...

I think the thread is useful since it starts debate. No question that the committee is reading this right now and gaining valuable insight and different perspectives.

I think any topic that get's this many responses is a great topic. The forums have been dead over the past few seasons so it's nice to see one go up that people actually seem to care about.

Thanks for the vote bro, but I agree with the other guys that Grek K is extremely valuable to his team. Although stats are usually a good reflection of the value a player adds to his team, I don't think they should be the only deciding factor when it comes to MVP voting. There are guys in the league that only play a few minutes a game, and others who don't necessarily rack up league recorded stats, that bring the most value to their respective teams. I know because I've played with a few of them over the years.
