LAST WK: 3

Solid team win with nearly the entire team contributing somehow, and newcomer Anthony contributing in all categories. Did they get better after losing their second best scorer this season?

AMP with an AMP-like performance, putting up 27-10-3. Now he has another Popal to work with too. If Bilal and Yaqob have good seasons, this team won’t lose many games, if any.

LAST WK: 9

They beat the defending champs without their best player. Need I say more? Anas Najib is letting people know why he should’ve been in the MVP race last season. When Mr. DeJesus plays, this might give other teams a run for that top spot.

Mo has found someone to team up with, and his name is Ameed. The definite ROTY candidate put up 25 and 12, while Mo put up 18 and 14. As long as both of them are at every game, this team will stay near the top.

Dhaka

Typical Dhaka type game. Contributors across the board. Compared to other teams, they have a pretty easy schedule. They won’t have more than 2 losses.

6
Tripoli

LAST WK: 1

Surprising loss in a game where it seems like nobody played defense. I guess that was the Kanter effect! Jean and Muj combined for over 50 points, and Jean shot 75% from the field on 16 attempts! If you tell me that happened, there is no way I would think Tripoli took a loss.

Leonard Lee absolutely lit up Beirut. 27-4-6-2 makes him a legitimate contender for player of the week. When this team is fully loaded, lookout.

8
Bukhara
Bukhara

LAST WK: 15

A shorthanded Bukhara took care of business against a very young Palermo squad. Kenny is a very early contender for ROTY, putting up an impressive 20 points and 8 boards on 60% shooting. Big O with a monstrous 16 boards. When Ahmed is there, this team is going to be very difficult to beat.

Mombasa

No Pete Brown, no win. Even without Pete, this was a game they should be able to win. Hopefully Mombasa isn’t on the path they ended on last season.

Islamabad

LAST WK: 4

Still a scary team on a paper, but started the season with a loss. Why is Zain only taking 6 shots? He has to be more aggressive.

This team performed exactly how I imagined. The addition of Kenny was the much needed piece to make this team a legit contender. Kenny didn’t stop Steve from still doing what he does, and Ed and Joe shot lights out.

Huge win for Tehran. Anas Zubi was an amazing FA signing after the demise of Jeddah, dropping 19 on 8 shots! Can Anas fill Abdelrahman’s shoes?

LAST WK: 19

Big man Omar Mana was able to pick up the scoring they lost with Moayad heading to Damascus. He had some help from youngster Ahmad, scoring 14 more than his career average. If Omar can continue to play at this high level, they should be able to compete with the better teams in the league.

14
Suba
Suba

LAST WK: 8

Very bad loss for the normally dominant Suba team. Without Aytac, their defense fell short, allowing 66 points to Kashgar. Zach has to be more efficient.

15
Medina
Medina

LAST WK: 21

Medina shot very well from both inside the arc and out, but still came up short. All around, I definitely see this team being a strong competitor this season. Not many teams have a legit “big” on their roster that can score and play defense. Medina does.

Beirut

LAST WK: 11

Nick is still shooting 42984 3 pointers and Mingo is still filling up the box score. They took an L to a new Amman team without arguably their best player. Granted, Kenny was not present, but not a good start. When is this team going to start feeding Mingo?

17
Baghdad
Baghdad

LAST WK: 14

It seemed like nobody could really catch fire. The two new guys combined for 5-25 from the field. If they are Amir and Mark’s replacements, they have to play a lot better than that.

18
Damascus
8
LAST WK: 10

Playing with 5 stinks, but playing with possibly your best 5 doesn’t. Solid spread out offense, they just need to shoot more efficiently.

19
Sarajevo

Aymen and Salim looks like they may have made the right choice in leaving Suba. They look to keep it going next game against a struggling Riyadh.

Josh balled out. The team caught fire, shooting 46.4% from behind the arc. Great start to their season, and hopefully they continue on that path. Too bad they got a tough Dhaka team coming up.

21
Lagos
Lagos

LAST WK: 17

32 total points isn’t pretty, but a W is a W. I didn’t see this game, but did Kyseem get injured? Show up late? Is this a stat error? Lagos normal go-to man was 0-1 with 0 points. Is Yazzed the new face of Lagos?

22
Fez
Fez

LAST WK: 16

Amir’s new team came up just short. Good news is they have a new big man, and Amir won’t be 2-8 from 3 all year. I wouldn’t be surprised if he follows this up shooting 7-8 from 3.

23
Timbuktu

The Yanes family came up short, but on the bright side, newcomer Chris can score at will. He needs to do more than score to compete for ROTY though.

All around great team win. Contributors all around. Unfortunately, they do not get to play Mecca every week. Next week will be their real test when they face off against AMP and team.

Another team that hasn’t really found their go-to player. Lucky for them, they have an easier matchup coming up against another star-less Mecca squad.

I don’t see this team having enough star power to compete in a very emulous league. Hafiz needs to hire a GM if they want to start putting some Ws together.

I mentioned previously that I hope they show up this season. They had 8 guys at the game, and they still found a way not to show up. 23 total points, 0-17 from 3, and 20% from the field just isn’t going to cut it. Looking at their upcoming schedule, they have a longgg season ahead of them.
